Dollar a Week

Join for adollar a week

We believe small amounts add up when enough people give, and that giving should be fully transparent.

$4 a month, verified charities, every wire receipt published and easy to understand.

Round 1: the first wire goes out at $1,000.

Every donation moves the bar. When it fills, the pot goes to one verified charity at the next month close, and a new round begins.

How it works

  1. You give

Your card is charged $4 once a month. No account, no password.

  2. We wire

We close the month on the first. Once the charity pot has reached $1,000, we wire it to one verified charity. Until then it carries over.

  3. You see the receipt

Every wire receipt and the charity's confirmation are posted on this site for anyone to check.

How we verify a charity

Before a charity receives anything, it passes four checks. Every receipt links to its public registration.

  • Where help goes furthest

We only fund charities in lower-income countries, where every dollar stretches further.

  • Legally registered

Registered as a nonprofit and approved to receive donations by its country's tax authority.

  • Paid directly

We wire to a bank account in the charity's own legal name. Never to a person.

  • Receipt confirmed

The charity confirms each wire in writing, and we publish it next to the receipt.

Latest receipt

No wire yet. The first one goes out at the first month close after the pot reaches $1,000.

Questions

What is Dollar a Week?

A simple way to give: you pay $4 a month, and once the charity pot reaches $1,000 we wire it to one verified charity in a lower-income country and publish the receipt.

How much of my $4 reaches the charity?

About $3.23. Stripe charges a card fee of about $0.42, and we keep a 10% administrative share of what is left, about $0.35. The exact figures for every month are on the transparency page.

When does the money go to a charity?

We close the month on the first. Once the charity pot has reached $1,000, we wire it to one verified charity and publish the receipt. Until then it carries over to the next month.

Which charities do you support?

Registered nonprofits in lower-income countries, where a dollar stretches further. Every charity passes the four checks listed under How we verify a charity, and every receipt links to its public registration.

Why is it billed $4 a month instead of $1 a week?

Card payments carry a fixed fee on every charge. Four separate $1 charges would lose about 33% to fees; one $4 charge loses about 11%.

Who runs Dollar a Week?

A small company, registered in Wyoming, United States. The charities that receive the money are registered nonprofits; the company is not one, so what you pay is not tax deductible. Every fee it keeps and every wire it sends are published on the transparency page.

How do I cancel?

Any time, from any device. Use the Cancel page or the link in any receipt email. No account or password needed.

Why are spots limited?

We cap donors at 250 for now, so every round stays small enough to verify and report properly. We open more spots as rounds fill.
