Who operates this site
Dollar a Week is operated by Sungate Studio LLC, trading as Dollar a Week. The company is a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, United States. Write to hello@joindollaraweek.com for anything on this page.
What this is
Sungate Studio LLC is a for profit company. It collects $4 a month from each donor. What is left after Stripe fees and a 10% administrative share is the charity's share. The month closes on the first of the next month; when the charity's share has reached $1,000 at a close, it is wired to one charity that week, and otherwise it carries over. The number of active donors is capped at 250 for now. Dollar a Week is not a registered charity, it is not a nonprofit, and it is not a tax exempt organisation. Payments made here are not tax deductible in any country.
Charities
A charity receives a wire only if it works in a lower-income country, is registered as a nonprofit and approved to receive donations by its country's tax authority, and holds a bank account in its own legal name. The company also complies with the sanctions and anti money laundering rules that apply to it. Each receipt links to the charity's public registration, and the charity's written confirmation is published once received.
Fees
Two amounts come out of what you pay. The first is the fee Stripe charges to process the card, which we do not set and do not keep. The second is a 10% administrative share of what is left, which the company keeps. Stripe's exact fees for every month and the exact administrative share are published on the transparency page on the first of the following month.
Refunds
A charge can be refunded in full within 14 days. Email hello@joindollaraweek.com from the address you paid with and say which charge. Once the wire that carries a month's charity share has gone out, that month cannot be refunded, because the money is no longer ours to return.
Cancelling
You can stop at any time from the cancel page, with no account and no password. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for. There is no charge after that.
Data
Stripe stores the card. We never see it and never hold it. What we store is your email address, your Stripe customer id and a record of each payment, which is what the transparency page adds up. There are no accounts and no passwords. The payment records stay for as long as the site publishes the months they belong to, which is every month since the first; they hold amounts and dates, not your name or your address. Your email address and your Stripe customer id stay while your subscription is active, and we delete them on request once it has ended.
Visits are measured with cookieless analytics, Vercel and PostHog. Nothing is written to your browser: no cookie and no local storage, so a reload counts as a new visit. Your IP address is not recorded, and everything after the question mark in a page address is removed before an event is sent, so the link Stripe returns you on never reaches analytics. Nothing in it points back to you.
To see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, email hello@joindollaraweek.com from the address you paid with. Cancel first if you are still giving, because an active subscription needs the record. Stripe keeps its own copy of the payment for as long as the law requires it to; ask Stripe about that.
